One of the results of our new analysis of history and
evolution has been the discovery of the problems with the legacy of theories
applied to the analysis of culture. And Darwinism is one of the principal
offenders here with its incorrect application of theory to an ambiguous domain
said to be that of evolution but also in an ambiguity of definition sliding
into an ideology of culture. It is no accident that Darwinism generated the
confusions of Social Darwinism, and our eonic model shows immediately why this
happens, and why we can't absolve Darwinists from this charge. We note the
so-called Oedipus Paradox that arises in false applications of causality to
historical situations, and the failure to properly harmonize the idea of
evolution in relation to history. The problem arises from the misuse of
universal generalizations that look like laws and thus extend their claims
from the past to the future without taking into account the fact that the
theory itself is an historical variable that interacts with its own future,
generating a contradiction. This is the plight of the theory of natural
selection as its implications, mostly false, condition the action of those who
adopt the theory as a universal generalization about evolution. The result is
the misapplication of theory to the potential future of action, when in fact
no such implication exists at all. Our model thus moves beyond the fallacy of
theories to show a way to apply the idea of evolution to the past and future
without their colliding with that future, and without introducing false
theoretical generalizations where they don't belong.
