 Introduction
The Introduction begins with an examination of the legacy of Darwinism, the Darwin debate, and the confusion over natural selection. The questions of evolution and ethics, the nature of reductionist theories, the design argument, and the ideologies of classical liberalism confused with evolutionism, are examined. The limits of observation are a problem for Darwinism and the resolution is ironically in world history, a unique dataset seen at close range, if we can understand the relationship of evolution and history. We need to be clear as to the distinction of random and non-random evolution. We embark in the next chapter on the demonstration of the eonic effect, and the way it constitutes a falsification of selectionist 'metaphysics'. Before examining the eonic effect, these questions of the metaphysics of evolution are examined from a Kantian perspective, and the context of the emergence of Darwinism in the age of positivism is considered. We are ready to demonstrate a non-random pattern in world history.
