  3.4 An Evolutionary Modernity

Last modified 07/04/2008

Note that from seeing evolution in deep time, long long ago, we have reversed our perception by finding it in recent time, in history itself, indeed, in terms of the modern world itself, that we find ourselves in. This is subject to the limitation of our two levels, that is, we cannot ascribe evolution to our direct present, except as a generalized milieu. Our model handles all this for us, and we should adjourn to its details. That is, if we pursue more closely the eonic model, we find that the action of 'evolution in our sense' has completed its short acting interval in our recent past, it will always be thus, else we wouldn't observe it, and this is followed the second level of evolution, the micro process, as this relates to our emerging freedom, and realization of the macro. This requires more detailed study in the other series provided here, but the point is that we have a way to bring evolution into our near present, without this interfering with our actual carrying out the process of history! The way the two interact can be seen in the Axial period (thence, modernity) by seeing that the paradox is resolved not deterministically but via the transformation of the consciousness of the free agents who execute its action. An elegant resolution of the macro and micro aspects.

We should note that in this case the micro factor is not natural selection but the degree of conscious freedom brought to the realization of the macro.
